June 6, 2024 – Kirtland, Ohio – The Lakeland Community College Board of Trustees has elected a state financial leader, David Cummins, as Lakeland’s new vice president for administrative services and college treasurer effective July 1, 2024.
Cummins has served in multiple roles for the Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) since 2017, recently as associate vice chancellor of financial planning and oversight and previously as interim vice chancellor of finance and data management. At ODHE, he assisted with policy development and administration of state financial support for public higher education in Ohio.
“Mr. Cummins is widely recognized as a state leader in higher education financial planning, analysis and administration,” said Lakeland President Sunil Ahuja, Ph.D. “As treasurer, he will ensure a secure financial future for Lakeland, with responsible stewardship of public dollars.”
Before working at the state level, Cummins held financial leadership roles at both public two-year and four-year institutions of higher education. He served as vice president for administrative services and treasurer for Lorain County Community College; vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer for The University of Akron; and vice president of business & finance and treasurer for North Central Technical College. Earlier in his career, Cummins worked for the Ohio Office of Budget and Management as a senior analyst.

Cummins holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and political science from Cleveland State University and a Master of Arts degree in economics from The Ohio State University.
