Korean Papermaking: Hanji from Korea to the Great Lakes

Aimee Lee will present how she researched and brought hanji to the US. Immediately following, in a hands-on activity, she will demonstrate how to cut large sheets of hanji (Korean paper) into paired strips to make cords. This is the building block for jiseung (Korean paper basketry), an ancient technique used in Korea to create furniture, vessels, and objects for ritual, household, and military use. Samples of jiseung artwork, books, and hanji will be shown alongside images and videos.
