Lakeland CCP Student Breaks New Ground With SME-USA Internship

Posted: January 29, 2026

Lakeland Community College is proud to announce that Adam Pakeltis is the first student from the College to participate in an internship with SME-USA, a civil engineering company that provides development, construction and consulting services.

Pakeltis accomplished this milestone while enrolled in the College Credit Plus (CCP) program, which enables high school students to earn college credit concurrently with their secondary education. His placement with SME-USA demonstrates the expanding opportunities available to students through Lakeland's Career Services department.

"Lakeland is the reason why I have this internship opportunity in the first place," said Pakeltis. "Lakeland's job fair was where I met a couple of members of SME-USA. I was able to ask them questions about what a career in civil engineering would require and set up an interview with them following the fair."

This internship opens a pathway at Lakeland Community College that future students may follow as they pursue professional experience in their chosen fields.
