Lakeland Community College will host a grand opening for its newly renovated Engineering Building on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, from 10 a.m. to noon. The updated, 64,028-square-foot facility will provide state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, and industry technologies, significantly increasing workforce development capabilities in the region. This event marks the completion of a major renovation and expansion that added 14,484 square feet to the existing structure.

This ADA-compliant facility will allow Lakeland to implement new programming and fulfill the educational and workforce demand that is currently unmet in Northeast Ohio. Lakeland is building pathways to careers, fostering innovation, and driving economic growth for our students and the community.

“The Engineering Building has been in planning and development since 2021, so I am thrilled that we are now unveiling our state-of-the-art space,” says Sunil Ahuja, Ph.D., President, Lakeland Community College. “This building represents a major investment in our students and the future of Northeast Ohio. It will serve as a hub for innovation, providing the skills and resources needed to meet the critical workforce demands of our region's employers.”

Lieutenant Governor Jim Tressel as well as State Senator Jerry Cirino, 18th District, will serve as keynote speakers for the event. Tours of the Engineering Building will be provided following the speakers.
