Lakeland roadways to close in advance of solar eclipse

Posted: April 4, 2024

Due to the anticipated crowds and traffic caused by the solar eclipse, Lakeland will be closing campus roadways beginning at 10 p.m., Saturday, April 6. Barricades will be placed at the Garfield Road entrance and the Rt. 306 entrance (just beyond the LakeTran bus easement entrance). Traffic will be prohibited. Roadways will reopen at 5 p.m. Monday, April 8, following the solar eclipse. Staff needing campus access should contact campus police.

Lakeland previously announced that the college will be closed Monday, April 8, in anticipation of the solar eclipse.

The Lake County Emergency Management Agency is expecting the population of the county to be two to four times larger than a normal day which will lead to heavy traffic conditions with potential gridlock throughout the day. They are also predicting limited cellphone and radio communication services due to heightened network use.
