Posted: February 21, 2024

Celebrate Women’s History Month: from WOMAN XVII…Created by women, of women and about women is on display now through Sunday, March 24, in The Gallery at Lakeland on the first floor of Lakeland’s D-Building, located at 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland, Ohio 44094. A closing reception is scheduled for March 24, from 1-3 p.m., where attendees will have the opportunity to connect with the artists whose works are on display.

This year marks the 17th installment of the popular exhibition, featuring 32 female artists from Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Idaho, Indiana and Washington. They are all exhibiting pieces that represent a diverse variety of media, including oil and acrylic painting, drawing, ceramics, textiles, sculpture, assemblage, jewelry, photography and mixed media.

“I mixed it up a bit this year,” says Mary Urbas, gallery coordinator and curator of the exhibition. “It is an honor to invite new artists and welcome others back to the collection, including emerging artist Crystal Miller. Miller recently graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art and was identified in Canvas Magazine as an emerging artist to watch.”

Urbas also selected Laurel Herbold as this year’s featured artist. Freelancing and exhibiting locally since 1995, Herbold specializes in custom painting and design solutions as well as decorative restoration work in residential and commercial spaces. Her mural work can be seen in many churches and local businesses, like select Barrio locations and Goldhorn Brewery. Her impressive portfolio can best be viewed on her website or in her studio at W. 78th St. Studios, Suite 107, Cleveland, Ohio 44118.

Most of the artwork on display is available for purchase on the Arts at Lakeland’s website. A virtual guided tour of the exhibition will also be available for viewing on the gallery’s website.
