Lakeland students participate in medical evacuation drill
Lakeland Community College served as the location for a helicopter medical evacuation drill Thursday Oct. 4, 2023. The drill took place on the college campus in the open grassy area between T-Building and the softball field.
The event was organized by University Hospitals Aeromedical Services team in partnership with the Kirtland Fire Department and the college. Together, they worked diligently to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the drill, while providing a unique and important real-life training opportunity for Lakeland students.
Under the guidance of Daniel Solomon, program director for Lakeland Community College's EMT-Paramedic Program, students had the opportunity to experience handling a medical evacuation situation. This hands-on exercise allowed students to become familiar with aeromedical services, explore the inside of a medical helicopter, meet professionals in the field and practice setting up a safe and effective landing zone, a critical task in the EMS field.
Lakeland Community College extends its sincere thanks to University Hospitals Aeromedical Services and the Kirtland Fire Department for their support in making this educational event a success.
