The Lakeland Civic Orchestra seeks new members

Posted: July 12, 2023

On the heels of a lively 2022-2023 season, The Lakeland Civic Orchestra is tuning up and inviting new members to join the upcoming 2023-2024 season.

The Lakeland Civic Orchestra is specifically seeking musicians who play orchestral string instruments (violin, viola, cello and bass) as well as trumpet, trombone and percussion. Other woodwind and brass instrument players are welcome to audition but may not be offered a regular position at this time.

Interested musicians should contact Dr. Matthew Saunders at msaunders4@lakelandcc.edu or 440.525.7105. Auditions will be held by appointment only Monday, Aug. 21, in the Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center in the D-Building of Lakeland’s campus. Musicians must be prepared to sight-read and play a prepared selection that best demonstrates their skills.

Joining the Lakeland Civic Orchestra is an exciting opportunity to connect with other talented musicians, whose work helps to make the Arts at Lakeland a notable part of Northeast Ohio’s vibrant music scene. Orchestra members come from many different backgrounds, from passionate amateurs to professional musicians seeking additional performance opportunities.

All college students and community adults are eligible to join, but at least two years’ performing experience at the high school level is recommended. All members should commit to Monday evening rehearsals and two to three performances during each semester. Most performers must provide their own instruments, and percussionists must provide their own mallets.
