Lakeland’s Diversity Committee hosts Freedom Day celebration

Lakeland's Diversity Committee invites the community to celebrate Freedom Day on Friday, June 30, 2023, from 6:30 - 9 p.m. at the Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center. This free event is open to everyone and features an impressive line-up of local performers for an evening of song, dance, poetry, spoken word and visual art celebrating Juneteenth.

Nehemiah Spencer, a professional dancer and choreographer who graduated from the Cleveland School of the Arts is joined by other notable performers from the Cleveland area including Siaara Freeman, Cleveland Heights and University Heights' current Poet Laureate; Courtney Hamlett, who teaches visual arts at the Northwest School of the Arts, and Reflections Dance Theater, founded by Nehemiah Spencer.

Join us in celebrating Freedom Day! Light refreshments will be served, and all are invited to come enjoy a wonderful evening of art and performances honoring the freedom and history of Juneteenth.

ABOUT LAKELAND’S DIVERSITY COMMITTEE
The Diversity Committee plays a key role in administering programs and addressing challenges. The purpose of the Diversity Committee is to advise the president of the college regarding diversity and equal opportunity issues, and to facilitate programs and services that meet the changing needs of individuals in a diverse community.

Responsibilities include: identifying the strengths, resources and needs of the college in matters of diversity; assess and evaluate the progress of diversity on campus; recommend proactive activities to address diversity issues of concern; fund and endorse programs that will enhance diversity on campus; oversee the development of programs and activities that foster equal opportunities for all; and more.
