Workshop aims to help those aged 50+ start a business

Posted: July 1, 2020

The Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Lakeland wants to help people over 50 decide if they can, or should, go into business for themselves.

A "Work for Yourself@50+" webinar is slated for Wednesday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Ohio SBDC at Lakeland is offering this free program in partnership with the AARP Foundation.

According to the AARP Foundation, more than 20 million people over the age of 50 are at risk of not having enough income to meet their basic needs. AARP Foundation's "Work for Yourself@50+" aims to make it easy for older adults to explore self-employment options to increase their financial stability. However, please note, this program is open to adults of any age interested in starting their own business.

Workshops participants will learn about the benefits and risks of working for oneself; how to develop the self-employment idea; what it takes to pursue a self-employment opportunity; help to avoid pitfalls and scams; and ways to find trustworthy support and services.
