Lakeland Civic Band steps into marches and shines a spotlight on James Bond

The Lakeland Civic Band will honor the best of the famous marches in their spring concert titled “March Madness” being held Sunday, March 1, 2020, at 4 p.m. in the Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center, in the D-Building on the campus at 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland, 44094.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $2 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the college’s box office on the date of the concert, in advance by calling 440.525.7134 or online through lakelandcc.edu/arts.

The Lakeland Civic Band will perform a variety of American concert marches including John Philip Sousa's "Semper Fidelis," Henry Mancini's "Great Waldo Pepper March," Samuel Barber's "Commando March," and more.The band is also performing the world premiere of "Mysterious Marvels" composed by Lakeland Community College music professor Dr. Matthew Saunders.Thrilling and energetic, "Mysterious Marvels" was composed specifically for the Lakeland Civic Band.The band will also perform Alfred Reed's "El Camino Real: A Latin Fantasy," and a delightful medley of the most famous James Bond melodies in Stephen Bulla's arrangement of "Bond...James Bond." This concert is sure to have something for everyone.

The Lakeland Civic Band

The Lakeland Civic Band provides an opportunity for instrumentalists from the area to perform band literature of the highest quality. Its membership is drawn from Lakeland students, talented high school players, school music teachers and directors, and community musicians who are selected by audition.

In addition to concerts at Lakeland each fall and spring, the band has performed at area high schools and universities; national, state and regional conferences and conventions; Severance Hall and the Chautauqua Institute. The band has invited a variety of illustrious guest conductors and artists and has featured several of its members as soloists. The Lakeland Civic Band received the Sudler Silver Scroll Award presented by the Sousa Foundation in recognition of musical excellence and service to the community.

About the civic music programs

Lakeland Community College provides community members the opportunity to express and advance their talents by performing in four music groups: the Lakeland Civic Band, the Lakeland Civic Chorus, the Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra and the Lakeland Civic Orchestra.Additionally, the college offers talented high school students Jazz Impact, an all-star high school music group.
