The Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) has approved a dental assisting certificate program to be offered at Lakeland Community College. The one-year technical certificate is designed to prepare students for employment opportunities in the dental field.
Dental assistants provide patient care, take X-rays, keep records and schedule appointments.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of dental assistants is projected to grow 11% through 2028, due to the aging population as well as ongoing research that stresses the importance of how oral health affects general health. This will lead to continued increases in the demand for preventive dental services.
Two information sessions are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 13, from noon – 1 p.m. or 5-6 p.m., in room H-050 (dental hygiene clinic) on the Lakeland campus, 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland, 44094.
