Uniting the Talents from Two Great Cities is the Theme of Unique Art Show

Posted: July 11, 2018

Artists from the historic rustbelt cities of Cleveland and Pittsburgh are sharing the spotlight in a special art show at Lakeland Community College. The Gallery at Lakeland is hosting “ARTBELT: New Art from the Rustbelt,” an exhibition that begins July 22 and runs through Sept. 7, with an artist reception slated for Sunday, July 22, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The Gallery at Lakeland is located on the first floor of the D-Building on Lakeland’s main campus, at 7700 Clocktower Dr., Kirtland, Ohio, 44094. All shows are free and open to the public.

The brainchild of this extraordinary collaboration is Lakeland Gallery Coordinator Mary Urbas. She was aware of independent curator John Morris’ efforts to find a venue in Northeast Ohio to highlight the talents of artists from the Pittsburgh area. She seized the opportunity join forces for a rustbelt regional art show on Lakeland’s campus.

“It has always been my mission and goal to bring compelling art to The Gallery at Lakeland,” says Urbas, “I want to share the art with the Lakeland community, as I know many people may never venture out to a gallery or visit a museum. The focus of my late summer exhibition has always been community outreach. Historically I have invited local art associations, etc., to organize an exhibition of their member’s work. This year I wanted to do something a little different.”

For the show, 29 artists will exhibit works created in a variety of media including: oil, acrylic, watercolor and encaustic painting, drawing and collage, sculpture, ceramic sculpture, assemblage art, mixed media and photography.
