GIS Day is Nov. 18

Lakeland's Geospatial Technologies Department will once again take part in a worldwide event, GIS Day, on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 9:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The main event (and FREE food!) will be in the A-Building, room A-2100.

Mapping activities will be in the Geospatial Technology lab in C-Building, room C-2063.

Stop by to see exhibits and demos from local businesses and agencies that use GIS and learn how you can become a GIS professional.

Test out the computer-mapping software in the lab to get a feel for the countless ways in which this field spans across almost every industry imaginable.

If you like digital projects, geography and maps, or you simply don't know what to major in, then don't miss this event!

I’m often surprised when students who attend college success workshops tell me they have 4.0 G.P.A’s. Obviously, I think, they are doing something right but still, here they are! What I’ve learned is that these students take advantage of opportunities because they continually want to be better. They want to face their challenges differently. I have been at Lakeland since the fall of 2012.

What is your major? Are you seeking a degree?
Early Childhood Education and I am planning on getting my associates of Science in ECE from Lakeland.

Do you plan to transfer to a four-year college/university?
I plan on doing the Early Childhood Education partnership with Youngstown State University at the Holden University Center.

Are you in any clubs or organizations? Do you hold an officer position?
I am the Member Recruitment Specialist for Lakeland Student Government (LSG) and I am a member of the Actively Caring for People (AC4P) club.

Do you have a job? Where? What are your job duties?
I work at Go! Calendars in the Great Lakes Mall which isa one stop shop for all of your 2016 calendars. I will be working as a merchandising cast member at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida as a part of the Disney College Program starting in January!

What are your personal interests and hobbies?
I love to walk around my neighborhood to exercise. I also really enjoy spending time with my family and friends andwatching Disney movies and television shows.

Do you have any children? Brothers/sisters, pets (names)
I have a sister named Jennifer who is 19 and a Siamese cat named Isiah.

Anything about your personal or home life that you would like to share?
I was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome which is a disorder on the autism spectrum at the age of six, and I pretty much overcame the disorder.
