Human Services Continuing Education Courses

Lakeland Community College is an Approved Provider for the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board (RCS111403). The college is also a Preferred Provider for the Board of Executives of Long-Term Services and Supports (BELTSS) for contact hours. The Ohio Board of Nursing and the Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists will accept continuing education hours for courses approved by these boards (choose the Counselor certificate when registering). Selected courses have been approved by the Ohio Chemical Dependency Board.


Safe Zone: An Understanding of the LGBTQ+ Community (Ethics)

Gain important basic information about the LGBTQ+ community, their terminology, current challenges and how they impact mental health services. Learn how to interact in an ethical way with clients, refer them to appropriate services and identify resources for their families. (3 Hours) Provides continuing education in the form of ethics hours for counselors, chemical dependency professionals, social workers, and speech language pathologists and audiologists. Clinical Issues with the LGBTQ+ Population (Ethics)

This quality-of-life training will focus on the LGBTQ+ family, including those who identify as transgender or nonconforming. It will include sexual health, the complicated process of coming out, and how to help navigate the coming out process in different communities and cultures. (3 hours). Provides continuing education in the form of ethics hours for counselors, social workers, chemical dependency counselors, and speech language pathologists and audiologists; and regular hours for nursing home administrators and nurses.
