EMGT - Issue 1 • August 2015

FEATURED PROGRAM

Why should you attend Lakeland?

Due to new state and college guidelines, we have made changes to our Emergency Management program

This resulted in a reduction of up to 9 percent in required semester hours!

  • Lakeland’s online All-Hazards Emergency (aka Disaster) Management degree is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, listed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Higher Education Project and the Ohio Emergency Management Agency, and Internationally Accredited by IFSAC!
  • Some FREE COLLEGE CREDIT is available for specified courses taken via the Emergency Management Institute (on campus or independent study) or your state or territorial emergency management agency. We have awarded this free college credit for 12 Years. Email Lee Silvi at Lsilvi@lakelandcc.edu for details and conditions that apply.
  • By attending our courses you can network and learn from others! Our current students and alumni represent emergency managers, safety directors, fire departments, police departments, private industry, the military and the American Red Cross, among other fields and employers.
  • You do not have to pursue a degree. Students living a distance from our main campus may “attend” their core emergency management courses online, take approved general education courses (such as English, social science, etc.) at a college closer to home.
  • If you already completed coursework or have a degree in another field you should contact the program director, Lee Silvi, to obtain information on how many of those courses might be counted toward a emergency management degree at Lakeland.

THE LAKELAND ADVANTAGE

ACCREDITATION!

Lakeland's Emergency Management program is Internationally Accredited by IFSAC.

Lakeland Community College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

Note: There are many types of accreditation but, “The most widely recognized and universally accepted form of accreditation is regional accreditation.” (Regional accreditation is the type of accreditation held by Lakeland.)

BUYER BEWARE: Some other colleges are NOT regionally accredited! This could cause transfer and/or recognition issues for a student. Additionally, some employers do not recognize degrees that do not hold this type of accreditation.
