The Lakeland Civic Jazz Orchestra and the Lakeland Jazz Impact honor one of the most successful and influential artists of all time in their fall concert: “Q – The Music of Quincy Jones.” The concert is slated for Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016, at 4 p.m. in the college’s Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center, 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland, 44094.

Quincy Delight Jones Jr., known simply as ”Q” amongst music aficionados, has had a vast influence in modern American music and has found monumental success across all forms of entertainment media. For over six decades, Jones has been a revered composer, arranger, conductor, musician and instrumentalist, in addition to being a film and television producer, magazine founder, entertainment executive and humanitarian. While he originally came to fame as a jazz conductor and arranger, he has also been an enormous influence in the rise of pop music.Jones has garnered dozens of Grammy Award nominations and wins, has been nominated for more Academy Awards than any other African-American, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and has been honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. As Jazz Orchestra Director Dave Sterner says, “Honoring Quincy Jones comes naturally to any musician, as his influence has been so profound and pioneering across the jazz industry and beyond.”

Also joining the concert will be noted singer Lou Armagno, who has studied and recorded the music of jazz legends for decades and has performed in venues across the country.
