Lakeland Civic Orchestra season begins by showcasing teachers and pupils

The Lakeland Civic Orchestra will present the first performance of their 2016-2017 concert season Sunday, Nov. 13, at 4 p.m. in the college’s Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center, 7700 Clocktower Drive, Kirtland, 44094.

Tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $2 for students and can be purchased at the box office on the day of the performance, or in advance, by calling 440.525.7134 or online at lakelandcc.edu/arts.

The orchestra will perform the world premiere of Cooper Wood’s “Conjecture.” Wood is a senior at Madison High School who has been studying composition with Lakeland Civic Orchestra director Dr. Matthew Saunders since the age of 13.“Conjectureis his first work for orchestra, and was commissioned by the Lakeland Civic Orchestra.

Guests will also be honored with the Ohio premiere of Saunders’ “Concerto for Piano and Orchestra,” and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 under the direction of Saunders, with guest pianist Avguste Antonov.

Antonov is a Dallas, Texas-based pianist who specializes in performing music by American composers.He has performed several piano works by Saunders and will be presenting a free solo recital at Lakeland Community College, Wednesday, Nov. 8, at 12:30 p.m. in the Rodehorst Performing Arts Center.
