The 12th May Show at Lakeland Juried Art Exhibition

The Gallery at Lakeland opened “The 12th May Show at Lakeland Juried Art Exhibition,” Thursday, May 19, 2022. The show runs through July 15, in the Gallery at Lakeland located on the first floor of the D-Building on Lakeland Community College’s campus, at 7700 Clocktower Dr., Kirtland, Ohio, 44094. All shows are free and open to the public.

This year’s juror is Janet Bloch. Since 2016, Bloch has served as the executive director at Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City, Indiana. She earned a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Bloch was the gallery director at Woman Made Gallery in Chicago for a decade and the author of “Strategic Marketing Tools for Visual Artists.”

“To be a juror for an exhibit is a humbling experience,” Bloch wrote in her juror’s statement. “I appreciate the opportunity to view the works of so many artists who demonstrated a high degree of competency.”

An artist reception was held opening night where Kristina Walter’s “Family Dinner No. 4,” oil on canvas, was unveiled as Best in Show. Award winners include:

  • Michael Bacnik: “The Assignment,” acrylic on canvas
  • Denise Buckley: “They Three,” ceramic
  • Meryl Haring: “Rose Colored Glasses,” oil on canvas
  • Timothy Herron: “Jack’s Sports Bar,” oil on canvas
  • Gwen Waight: “Model Minority,” found object assemblage
  • Will Wilson: “Porcelain Rabbit,” acrylic, oil on canvas

“The May Show 2022: Extended View” will be at Stella’s Art Gallery in Willoughby. The extended view runs from June 10 – July 2, with an artist reception Friday, June 10, from 7-9 p.m. Awards will be presented at 8 p.m.

About the Gallery at Lakeland
The Gallery at Lakeland presents several art exhibitions each year. Highlights include the annual “from Woman…” exhibition, which is the largest exhibition of women artists in the region; the May Show Juried Art Exhibition; and the crowd pleasing, pop culture related exhibition, The Skull and Skeleton in Art. These exhibitions support and advance recognition of Lakeland’s fine arts academic programs; diversity efforts at the college; community arts groups; and local, regional and national artists.

Children 14 years of age and younger should be under adult supervision.

Gallery Hours: Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. | Saturday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. | Sunday, closed | Closed for holidays May 30 and July 4.
