A CNC operator on the job
A scholarship is now available for a one-credit course that introduces manufacturing to anyone who would like to learn how to get a job in the field.
"Careers in Manufacturing" (CIMN 1001) is designed for students with little to no background in manufacturing and who seek a quick start to a manufacturing career. Topics covered include the manufacturing process, what it's like to work in manufacturing, various career pathways, and the skills utilized in manufacturing environments.
In an effort to meet the regionally-strong demand for CNC operators, Lakeland met recently with area employers to see how to fast track students into vacant positions that they need to fill in the manufacturing sector. To encourage interest, a scholarship was established with the support of the Alliance for Working Together (AWT), a consortium of local manufacturing companies.
The CIMN 1001 course runs eight weeks and will be offered Saturdays, beginning Jan. 11, from 9-10:50 a.m. or Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 15, from 5-6:50 p.m.
Express registration for spring semester 2020 is now open. To start the class this January and learn how to apply for the scholarship, those interested may call 440-525-7050 or email SSCenter@lakelandcc.edu.
