The Gallery at Lakeland is hosting an awe-inspiring display of artistic talent in the “9th Annual May Show at Lakeland Juried Art Exhibition.” The exhibition is up through July 13, with an artist reception and awards ceremony slated for Thursday, May 17, at 6 p.m. in the Dr. Wayne L. Rodehorst Performing Arts Center. The gallery is located on the first floor of the D-Building on Lakeland’s main campus, at 7700 Clocktower Dr., Kirtland, Ohio, 44094. All shows are free and open to the public.
For this esteemed gallery show, artists from Northeast Ohio and surrounding areas submitted pieces for acceptance and then a juror awarded the prizes including the Best in Show. This year, 197 artists submitted 453 works for consideration, with 121 pieces by 80 artists accepted. The show encompasses a diverse collection of artworks including oil, encaustic, acrylic and watercolor painting, drawing, pastel, mixed media, assemblage art, ceramics, sculpture, wood, photography, fiber, printmaking and jewelry/metals.
The show awarded $4,000 in cash prizes, including the Best in Show cash award of $1,500. The judge for the exhibition was Ken Emerick,who is The Ohio Arts Council’s (OAC) Director of Artist Programs and the Ohio Percent for Art Program.
Guests of the artist reception will be treated to a performance by the FAC-PAC, a musical group formed from some of Lakeland’s music faculty.
About the gallery
The Gallery at Lakeland presents seven art exhibitions each year, in addition to an annual Holiday Artists’ Market, which benefits the Lakeland Visual Arts Student Exhibition. These exhibitions support and advance recognition of Lakeland’s fine arts academic programs; diversity efforts at the college; community arts groups; local, regional and national artists; as well as local high school all-star artists.
