Lakeland to offer women’s soccer beginning fall 2018

Posted: November 28, 2017 | Updated: January 10, 2018

The Lakeland athletics department has announced that women's NJCAA Division I soccer will be added to the sports offerings beginning fall semester 2018. The addition of women's soccer comes as the sport continues to grow in popularity throughout the region.

"Almost every high school in the area offers girls soccer, so this is a natural fit to meet the needs of our community," said Scott Barlow, director for athletics at Lakeland. "We've been discussing adding this for some time now, and we are happy to be able to offer this option to our female student athletes."

The program will be the only NJCAA Division I women's soccer program in the state of Ohio. Lakeland is a member of Region 12 which includes Ohio, Indiana and Michigan. Division I schools include Ancilla College, Lake Michigan College, Jackson College, Muskegon Community College and Schoolcraft College.

The addition of women's soccer brings the total sports offerings at Lakeland to eight. Other sports at Lakeland include Division I men's soccer, Division II women's volleyball, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball and men's golf.

Students interested in being a part of the inaugural women's soccer team at Lakeland while pursuing academics, may contact Scott Barlow at 440.525.7350 or sbarlow@lakelandcc.edu.
